POS acceptanceIn Mexico, merchants displaying the signage of or、 and accept UnionPay cards. These merchants are mainly located in popular tourist cities such as Mexico City and Cancun, and the merchants include brand hotels, department stores, outlets, supermarkets, convenience stores and restaurants. Since that some of the merchants have yet to put up the UnionPay signage, cardholders may show their UnionPay cards upon the till and inquire about UnionPay acceptance.
In Cancun, hotels like Ritz Calton and Fiesta Americana, shopping centers like La Isla Centro Comercial, Plaza Kukulcan and Plaza la Fiesta, as well as airport duty free shops and catering merchants accept UnionPay cards. In Mexico City, hotels like Intercontinental, Fiesta Americana and Four Season, shopping centers like Palacio de Hierro, Liverpool, Outlet Punta Norte and Outlet Lerma, as well as duty free shops and catering merchants in Riviera Airport accept UnionPay cards.
Since co-branded cards are not able to choose UnionPay as the routing option in Mexico, cardholders are recommended to use UnionPay single-branded cards, so as to be benefited from the special offers and services provided by UnionPay. Since merchants in Mexico do not accept PIN payment, UnionPay debit cards can only be used for cash withdrawal. UnionPay credit cards are accepted at merchants.
Cash withdrawalIn Mexico, UnionPay cards are accepted for cash withdrawal and balance inquiry by the ATMs of over 50 banks, accounting for 85% of all the local ATMs. These ATMs are located in major airports, inter-city bus stations, convenience stores, supermarkets and scenic spots, and display the following signage:ATM locations:Mexico City: Benito Juárez International Airport Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 Arrival, Departure, and VIP Lounge; the Paseo de la Refoma, Zona Rosa, Polanco, Sheraton Hotel, and Historic Center.Cancun: Cancun Airport, Hotel Zone, Plaza Isla, Plaza KukulcanLos Cabos: Airport Arrival and Departure, Plaza Hollywood, Plaza Puerto Paraíso, José Antonio Mijares.Please refer to the latest government policy on overseas cash withdrawal via UnionPay cards at "Help Center-Card-using Instructions-Refined Card-using Tips". Daily cash withdrawal limit from respective issuers and/or ATM may apply. Please consult your issuer on the possible cap on the amount.
