    UnionPay cards are accepted at about more than 90% of merchants in Italy, including numerous international brands, characteristic boutiques, featured inns, luxury hotels, restaurants, blocks of famous stores, and discount villages. You can withdraw Euro with UnionPay cards at over 90% ATMs.
  • POS acceptance
    More than 90% of merchants across Italy can accept UnionPay cards. Rome, Milan and other tourist cities have constructed barrier-free acceptance cities, where almost all UnionPay cards can be accepted.
    Since that some of the merchants have yet to put up the UnionPay signage, cardholders may show their UnionPay cards upon the till and inquire about UnionPay acceptance.

    When using co-branded cards, you are advised to choose UnionPay as the routing option to be benefited from the special offers and services provided by UnionPay.

    Note：Some UnionPay card acceptors or acquirers route co-branded cards to corresponding card scheme according to the card BIN, which means co-branded cards transactions aren't routed to UnionPay without selection by cardholders and merchant cashiers. Please refer to the transaction results for the information about transaction routing.

    Paying with UnionPay credit card at some local merchants requires no PIN.Cardholders can complete the payment following the instruction of the cashier.You can also refer to relative service guide at "Help Center-Card-using Instructions-Service Guide for Overseas Using of UnionPay Credit Card without PIN    ". 
  • Cash withdrawal
    In Italy, more than 90% of ATMs accept UnionPay cards for withdrawing Euro. About 80% of ATMs, those of Intesa Sanpaolo, UniCredit, Poste Italiane, BancoBPM, Banca Popolare di Sondrio, BPER, Banco di Sardegna, Banca Cesare Ponti, BCC Pay / Iccrea and Euronet, accept UnionPay chip cards. There are   signage or the following signages on these ATMs or the ATM screen:

    Please refer to the latest government policy on overseas cash withdrawal via UnionPay cards at "Help Center-Card-using Instructions-Refined Card-using Tips    ". Daily cash withdrawal limit from respective issuers and/or ATM may apply. Please consult your issuer on the possible cap on the amount. You may split your withdrawals into several times which comply with the limit(s).
  • Charges
    There are no ATM commission fees charged by UnionPay, but possibly by local banks in Italy or by some issuing banks. The fees charged by local banks (if any) are displayed by the ATM before the completion of the cash withdrawal. For the service fee from issuing bank, please refer to your issuer for details.

    Cash withdrawal via debit card results in a lower commission fee.

  • Tips
    Select PINs that cannot be easily guessed by anyone.
    Never disclose your PIN to anyone who claims to represent the bank or the police.
    Be alert to your surroundings before conducting any banking transactions.
    Keep a close eye on your credit card during transaction to avoid any illegal activities.
    If your UnionPay card has been stolen/lost, please inform the issuer immediately.
  • Tax Refund of UnionPay Cards upon Returning
    UnionPay International cooperates with United Money to launch the service of tax refund on return. If UnionPay cardholders shop in designated stores of tax refund in EU countries, it’s available to apply for tax refund upon returning after having tax return form stamped by the customs. The tax-refund process is simple in operation, rapid to the account and available to exempt the trouble of queuing. (The service is only applicable for UnionPay cards issued in Mainland China.)

  • Introduction of Overseas Tax Refund
    In Italy, UnionPay has launched the UnionPay card (card number starting with 62) overseas tax refund service in cooperation with Global Blue, Planet Tax Free. You can apply for tax refunds when shopping in tax-free stores with the following logos of tax refund companies. You are entitled to use the UnionPay cards (with cardholder name printed in the card surface) for receiving of tax refund.
       
    Using UnionPay cards for tax refund service, you could collect refund in default transaction currency of your cards without any currency exchange fees. Using UnionPay credit card, you can get the tax refund at downtown: at Global Blue downtown point, you can apply for early cash refund; at certain Global Blue tax free shops, you can apply for fast refund, receiving refund in 2 days. Please remember to get the custom approval and return the forms and invoices before departure.

  • More considerate services offered by UnionPay Card

    UnionPay Card Emergency Cash Assistance Service

    UnionPay cardholders can call the hotline of the issuing bank or local UnionPay hotline to apply for an emergency cash assistance capped at the equivalent of USD 5,000 if they are experiencing emergencies like lost or malfunctioning cards.
