VUELING BECOMES FIRST LOW-COST AIRLINE IN EUROPE TO ACCEPT UNIONPAY CARDS
2022-05-26

Vueling, which forms part of IAG (International Airlines Group), and UnionPay International, a global card scheme, have reached an agreement which will allow the airline's customers to make payments with their UnionPay credit and debit cards. Thanks to this alliance, Vueling becomes the first low-cost airline in Europe to accept this payment method.

UnionPay cardholders can now make flight bookings and payments on the Vueling website as well as via the telephone sales service. This new payment method, available for individuals, agencies and companies, is in addition to those that Vueling has available so that its customers can make online purchases with the greatest security and agility.

The partnership with UnionPay International will enable Vueling to expand its customer base in China and the rest of Asia. UnionPay is a world-leading card scheme and is now accepted in 180 countries and regions.

Jesús Monzó, Vueling's Distribution Strategy and Alliances Manager said on the partnership: “We are delighted to give UnionPay cardholders the opportunity to book their flights safely and securely with Vueling. As global appetite for international travel continues to increase, we look forward to welcoming many more customers from China and the wider Asian region to Europe. Given UnionPay’s dominant position in Asia, there is no better partner to help us expand our presence in this crucial market.”

Shengliang Yang, Deputy Head of Europe, UnionPay International, said: “Building long-term relationships with our valued partners is central to UnionPay continued global growth. As one of Europe’s leading low-cost airlines, Vueling is a natural partner for UnionPay and we have every confidence that it will prove to be a popular travel choice among our customers.”
