Bank of Maldives begins Acceptance of Unionpay on its Payment Gateway

Bank of Maldives today announced the expansion of its payment options with the inclusion of UnionPay on its Payment Gateway. This move further strengthens BML's commitment to providing convenient and accessible payment solutions to its business customers.

"We are delighted to enable acceptance of UnionPay on our Payment Gateway," said Moosa Nimal, Chief Business Officer at Bank of Maldives. "UnionPay is one of the world's leading payment networks, and today’s announcement means our merchants will now be able to cater to the growing number of UnionPay cardholders among Chinese tourists visiting the Maldives.”

Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Hu Binghan, Head of UnionPay International South Asia said, "UnionPay is committed to enhancing payment products and services for our cardholders across the world. BML is one of our most important partners in the area. The cooperation this time is one of our joint efforts to better serve our customers, marking another milestone in our deepening cooperation. It is expected to further encourage global especially Chinese tourists to visit Maldives. Chinese tourists have been a key driver of tourism growth in Maldives in recent years, and the new service is likely to accelerate this trend."

Bank of Maldives currently accepts UnionPay cards via ATM, Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals, and its merchant portal as well. 

With a nationwide network of 38 branches across all 20 atolls, 137 Self Service Banking Centres, 192 ATMs, over 8000 merchants and a full suite of Digital Banking services, Bank of Maldives is committed to supporting individuals, businesses and communities across Maldives.
