June 26 - UnionPay International and Pakistan’s largest acquirer Bank Alfalah jointly announce that UnionPay cards (with card number starting with 62 and with UnionPay logo on card face) will be accepted in all POS terminals under the bank. So far, UnionPay cards have become accepted in nearly 80% of POS terminals and over 60% of ATMs in Pakistan where cardholders can enjoy more convenient UnionPay card payment service.

Bank Alfalah is the largest acquirer in Pakistan which runs 471 outlets in 163 cities in Pakistan, covering POS terminals located in many types of consumer places including supermarkets, brand chain stores, hotels, restaurants, souvenir shops, etc. This cooperation between UnionPay International and Bank Alfalah will significantly increase the use of UnionPay cards in local POS terminals. In the meantime, UnionPay International is launching cooperation with more and more local institutions and UnionPay cards are expected to be accepted in all ATMs in Pakistan within the year.

As UnionPay card acceptance environment continues to improve in Pakistan, UnionPay International has issued many types of UnionPay cards through the cooperation with FBL, HBL and some other institutions in Pakistan. All these cards can be used in the global acceptance network including Pakistan’s and have brought convenient service to local residents for their daily card use and cross-border payment. In the near future, UnionPay International will introduce more diversified UnionPay card products through the cooperation with KASB, ICBC Karachi Branch, etc.
