UnionPay is accepted at over 70% of merchants in Indonesia
Tourists may enjoy special benefits offered by UnionPay

According to the Indonesian tourism department’s estimation, approximately 200,000 tourists will visit Indonesia from mid-August to early September, and many come from China. Now, tourists with UnionPay cards can easily pay at over 70% of the local merchants and withdraw cash from almost all ATMs in Indonesia. About 600 merchants also offer up to 20% off discounts to UnionPay cardholders. These merchants include popular restaurants, hotels and stores.

In recent years, UnionPay International continues to expand its acceptance network in Indonesia through collaboration with local major institutions. For instance, the local largest acquirer, BCA, has enabled all its merchants to accept UnionPay cards. So far, it is easy to pay with UnionPay cards at the local restaurants, hotels, duty-free shops, and department stores. In destinations often visited by tourists, such as Jakarta, it is fuss-free to use UnionPay cards.

A Chinese tourists shared online about his shopping experience in Indonesia last week: he ‘downloaded the u•plan e-coupon in advance and enjoyed 10% off” at QuickSilver when paying with UnionPay card. Since August, many merchants in Indonesia are offering special discounts and benefits to UnionPay cardholders. Now, UnionPay cardholders can enjoy up to 15% discount at over 500 stores of popular F&B merchants, including Burger King, Duck King, Wendy’s and Baskin Robbins. Cardholders can also enjoy discounts when staying at hotels such as the Ritz-Carlton, Holiday Inn Express and Gran Melia Hotel in Jakarta. Some fashion brand stores such as Farah Khan offer UnionPay-exclusive discounts too.

It is also very convenient to pay with UnionPay cards in other Southeast Asian countries and regions. Now, UnionPay cards are accepted and issued in all 10 ASEAN countries. Almost all ATMs and over 90% of merchants in Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam accept UnionPay cards. Southeast Asia is also the “demonstration zone” for UnionPay QR code payment: cardholders are already able to pay with QR code via the “UnionPay” app at some merchants in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia.
