UnionPay International announced today that UnionPay Frictionless Parking Solution is to be launched in Macau: the payment service will be available at a number of public parking lots in Macau by the end of this month. And it is expected that by the end of next year, this service will be available at about 40 parking lots in Macau. This is the first time that this type of parking payment solution is launched in Hong Kong and Macau. In addition, UnionPay Frictionless Tolls Payment Solution will be available on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge within this year, further facilitating the transportation interconnection in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

In September 2017, UnionPay Frictionless Parking Payment Solution debuted in the parking lots of Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport. To date, the solution has extended to over 500 parking lots in mainland China. This solution integrates parking license plate recognition technology with bankcard express payment technology, and adopts payment tokenization to guarantee payment convenience and safety. This time, UnionPay International, in cooperation with Bank of China (Macau), first launches UnionPay Frictionless Parking Payment Solution at some parking lots in Macau. In order to promote this business collaboration, UnionPay International and Bank of China (Macau) will launch special offers for cardholders enjoying this service.

The launch of UnionPay Frictionless Parking Payment Solution in Macau on the one hand creates a new payment scenario of UnionPay cards in Macau, enhancing the daily card-using experiences of our cardholders; and on the other, enhances the efficiency of urban transportation in Macau by leveraging on UnionPay’s technical advantages. In the future, we will extend UnionPay Frictionless Payment Solutions to more scenarios, such as gas stations, government charges, property management, to support the building of “Smart City” in the Great Bay Area.

When using UnionPay Frictionless Parking Payment Solution for the first time, car owners in Macau may use the app of “easy parking” to bind their UnionPay credit card with their license plate number, and then may enjoy automatic payment when entering or leaving designated parking lots without the need for scanning code or paying cash. At the same time, UnionPay International has reached partnership with several parking management companies in Macau, and will extend the service to about 40 parking lots by the end of 2019. In the future, Macau parking lots supporting UnionPay Frictionless Parking Payment Solution will also support UnionPay credit cards issued worldwide.

At present, UnionPay International is expediting the building of the Great Bay Area cross-border transportation payment environment as well as the local transportation payment environment in Hong Kong and Macau. Now, parking meters, most parking lots and all bus lines in Macau accept UnionPay QuickPass. In Hong Kong, about 200 taxis in Hong Kong accept UnionPay cards and UnionPay mobile QuickPass, and several channels support UnionPay IC card QuickPass. Cardholders can pay tolls for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge with UnionPay cards at mobile smart POS terminals. UnionPay is also accepted for ticket booking by the cross-border bus operators both online and offline.
