All stores of JB HI-FI and Dan Murphy’s in Australia accept UnionPay QuickPass

UnionPay International announced today that JB HI-FI, Australia’s largest home entertainment retailer, and Dan Murphy’s, Australia’s favorite liquor store, have enabled all of their stores across Australia to accept UnionPay cards and also UnionPay Mobile QuickPass. China UnionPay Chairman Mr. Ge Huayong experienced the smooth payment service of UnionPay mobile QuickPass at Dan Murphy’s flagship store in Melbourne, and witnessed the signing of an in-depth cooperation agreement between UnionPay International and JB HI-FI, in which the two businesses [organisations] have agreed to collaborate in joint marketing and brand promotion.

Australia is one of the Chinese tourists’ favorite long-distance destinations. It is estimated by Australia’s tourism department that the total number of Chinese visiting Australia this year will exceed 1.4 million. Against this background, UnionPay International is sparing no efforts in realizing seamless use of UnionPay cards in Australia. Now, UnionPay is already accepted at 90% of the local ATMs and 75% of the local merchants, covering various types of merchants including catering, accommodation, transport, sightseeing, shopping and entertainment. Major local online merchants such as Qantas Airways have accepted UnionPay Online Payment too.

In particular, UnionPay mobile QuickPass has become its feature service in Australia and the transaction number of it in Australia grew by about 5 times since this year. At present, over 60% of UnionPay-accepting merchants in Australia also accept UnionPay mobile QuickPass. These merchants include Myer, Woolworths supermarkets, Legoland Discovery Centre in Melbourne, etc. Since today, UnionPay cardholders are able to pay at over 185 JB HI-FI stores and the over 200 Dan Murphy’s stores all across Australia by swiping or tapping UnionPay cards or by tapping QuickPass-enabled mobile phones.

Mr. Ge Huayong said, with the mobilization of the global payment industry and the change of customers’ payment habits, UnionPay is accelerating the promotion of its innovative payment products such as mobile QuickPass outside China. In Australia, we choose to launch innovative solutions at the local supermarkets and retailers, based on the extensive use of contactless payment in these scenarios. In this way, we not only meet the diverse payment demands of free-and-independent tourists but also lay a solid foundation for the localization and transformation of UnionPay business in Australia.

Besides offering payment ease for visitors to Australia, UnionPay International also collaborates with Bank of China (Australia) and the Australia Post in issuing cards in Australia, offering more payment options to the local Chinese, exchange students and Australian residents who often visit China.
