After an impressive showing at the 28th SEA Games, athletes from the Vietnam national team today celebrated their victories in a medal presentation ceremony at The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore together with UnionPay International (UPI), the international business arm of China UnionPay.

To deepen its engagement with the regional community through the common language of sports, UPI sponsored the Vietnam team participating in the SEA Games. Under the terms of agreement for the official sponsorship, UPI provided cash incentives of 5,000,000 VND for each individual gold medal hauls by the Vietnam national team. A grant of 60,000,000 VND was also awarded to the men’s national football team.

Congratulating the athletes, Mr Wenhui Yang, General Manager of UnionPay International Southeast Asia said, “We are delighted to be part of this special day as our friends in Vietnam celebrate the fruits of their hard work and dedication! UPI’s support for the regional community will not end with the SEA Games and going forward, we hope to introduce more initiatives to further strengthen the economic standing and social cohesiveness in the region”.

About 12 athletes from Vietnam attended the ceremony, representing a variety of sports including fencing, gymnastics, boxing, athletics and table tennis. As of 13 June 2015, the country won more than 60 gold medals and garnered over 150 medals, already surpassing its target of 60 gold medals with three more days of competition to go! Their 28th SEA Games campaign is led by women’s swimming phenomenon Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, who competed in 12 events and won 10 medals, seven of which were gold. As of 12 June 2015, Nguyen Thi Anh Vien is the most lauded female athlete for the 28th SEA Games, setting a SEA Games records for each of the seven gold medals that she won.

Mr Tran Van Manh, Secretary General of the Vietnam Olympic Committee said, “We are pleased that UPI is on board to support the Vietnam national team in our SEA Games bid this year. Our partnership with this fast-growing global payment systems company highlights Vietnam’s growing potential, both economically and in the sporting arena.”

In addition to its regional partnerships, UPI is the Official Payment Systems Sponsor of the 28th SEA Games, where it is committed to delivering enhanced payment solutions that are both secure and reliable to visiting delegates, spectators and the public. UPI also provided the sporting event with a cash sponsorship boost of more than S$1 million.
