OMA Group becomes TPSP of UnionPay International
OMA Group LLC has been registered as Third Party Service Provider (TPSP) for UnionPay International. It has successfully verified its PCI compliance to the payment system and with this certification, OMA will provide banks with access to UnionPay’s network and maintain acquiring programs of the member banks in the UnionPay International system in the Middle East, Pakistan and other regions. UnionPay is a brand that has witnessed exponential growth in the last decade and is currently one of the largest card schemes worldwide.

UnionPay International and PayTabs Partner to Power E-commerce in the UAE
UnionPay International (UPI) and PayTabs, MENA’s award-winning payment solutions powerhouse, today announced a strategic partnership that allows PayTabs merchants to offer UnionPay Cards as an alternative payment method to customers who purchase goods and services online in the United Arab Emirates.
The collaboration aims to service thousands of PayTabs merchants in retail, travel, hospitality, healthcare, education, F&B, and other industries, to improve the checkout experience of their customers and thereby increase their online sales conversion. At the same time, with access to PayTabs merchants in the UAE, UnionPay Cardholders can benefit from multiple transaction categories which include everything from booking a taxi, ordering food, making a hotel reservation, to shopping for clothes or groceries online. To date, eight billion UnionPay cards have been issued globally, giving PayTabs merchants in the UAE access to tap into this profitable segment of cardholders that have higher spending potential.

UnionPay International and ATU Duty Free introduce QR code payment at Turkish airports
UnionPay International (“UPI”) has teamed up with ATU Duty Free, Turkey’s leading duty free shops operating chain, to launch UnionPay QR code payment service at the chain’s 45 duty free shops in airports nationwide.
According to UPI, this is the first time for all ATU duty free shops to accept QR code payment, which offers global UnionPay cardholders traveling in Turkey the convenience of digital payment service.
“Payment behaviors are changing and users are looking for the fastest and the most secure ways to make their payments. UPI has long along been taking this into consideration. ATU Duty Free has been our valuable partner in Turkey over the years and I believe UnionPay users will better enjoy shopping at ATU Duty Free shops with this new experience,” said James Yang, General Manager of Unionpay International Middle East Branch.

Established in 2000 as a joint venture between TAV Airports Holding and Unifree Duty Free, ATU Duty Free operates 45 shops at Istanbul New Airport and the country’s other four airports - Ankara Esenboga Airport, Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, Mugla Bodrum Milas Airport and Antalya Gazipasa Airport.
UPI has partnered with ATU Duty Free since 2015. Currently, over 95% of POS terminals and 85% of ATM terminals accept UnionPay cards in Turkey. UnionPay cardholders can use their UnionPay cards in shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets and many others, according to UPI.
With the launch of UnionPay QR code payment, the local payment scene in the country will be powered by digital services which will speed up the shift in payment behavior in going mobile.
Apart from Turkey, UnionPay QR code payment has been launched in 41 markets around the world, with over 300 millions global users.

UnionPay Partners with Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank to Enable Contactless Payment on 15,000 Terminals throughout UAE
UnionPay International (UPI) has partnered with Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), one of the United Arab Emirates’ largest banks, to enable UnionPay card and contactless payment transactions on the bank’s 15,000 near field communications (NFC) terminals in the UAE.
As a safer payment method during the COVID-19 pandemic, UnionPay International has been pushing for contactless and online payments solutions in the region and throughout the whole world as part of its efforts to protect consumers at the checkout.
All of the bank’s point of sale (POS) terminals have been enabled to provide a contactless payment service. The bank’s 15,000 NFC terminals are spread across many industries and service types including: hospitals, hotels, government, supermarkets and everything in between. The payment services available include UnionPay contactless payment through UnionPay chip cards and Mobile QuickPass payment interfaces such as Apple Pay, Huawei Pay. Also, the limit for contactless payment has been increased to AED500 to encourage wider use during this time.
Developments like these, to increase the ease and accessibility of online and contactless payments, are some of the primary methods with which UnionPay International has been tackling virus infection at the checkout around the world.
On the other hand, UnionPay International continues extending more convenience and benefits to the local partners. To help ease the financial pressure of the merchants impacted by the pandemic situation, UnionPay has implemented policies to increase the chargeback window for local merchant that will give more flexibility.
