2017-07-27

UnionPay International announced today its cooperation with Club Med, a leading global hotel and resort operator, to realize comprehensive acceptance of UnionPay cards at Club Med’s Opio en Provence Resort, enabling cardholders to pay for various services with their UnionPay cards. Seventeen Club Med resorts in the Alps will fully accept UnionPay cards within this year and before next summer, five Club Med resorts in Portugal and Italy will follow suit too.

Over the past few years, it is increasingly convenient to pay with UnionPay cards in Europe, since UnionPay is accepted in 39 European countries and regions, covering more than 2.3 million merchants. In other words, half of the merchants that accept bankcards support UnionPay payment. The improvement of UnionPay’s acceptance in Europe has facilitated more cardholders to use UnionPay cards in Europe. In the first half of this year, cardholders from about 40 countries and regions have paid with UnionPay cards in Europe, promoting even more merchants to accept UnionPay cards as an important means to attract customers.

Headquartered in France, Club Med possesses 70 resorts in 26 countries and regions across five continents. It is particularly popular among tourists traveling with their family. Previously, tourists are able to use UnionPay cards to book Club Med’s resorts on its official website in China (www.clubmed.com.cn). Through this cooperation, tourists can pay with UnionPay cards at the shops, restaurants, bars, spa rooms, sports and entertainment facilities in the Club Med Opio en Provence resort. In the future, Club Med will enable its resorts outside Europe to accept UnionPay cards.

Now in France, UnionPay cards are accepted at about 70% of ATMs and more than 140,000 merchants, covering the Avenue des Champs, Place Vendome, Airport Charles De Gaulle, etc. UnionPay International is also collaborating with AccorHotels and Louvre Hotels Group to enable all of their hotels to accept UnionPay.
